RECORDINGS

Joseph Wytko Saxophone Quartet
TimeGrabber Digital TGD 003 (baritone saxophone)

The quartet's newest compact disc is an eclectic blend of works by Astor Piazzolla, J.S. Bach, Domenico Scarlatti, Robert Clérisse, Pierre Max Dubois, Alexander Ilyinski, Greg Steinke, and Glenn Smith. This interweaving of musical "languages" represents a typical program for the JWSQ, which the Saxophone Journal descibed as "a force that will help to shape music."

Features works by Scott Joplin, George Gershwin, Stephen Foster, Sammy Nestico, and others in an intimate ensemble setting. Also includes the premiere recording of a new composition written for the group by New Mexico composer Michael Iaturo (title track). A performance of the first published saxophone quartet, dating from 1857, completes this delightful collection of ragtime, roaring 20s, jazz, and classical music.
